Sleeve gastrectomy is the newest option for surgical weight loss. It had been suggested as the first of a planned 2 stage operation for weight loss in patients whose obesity was so severe that they could not tolerate having the entire operation done in a single setting. Jacobs M et al. – The results show that LSG is a safe and effective weight–loss procedure with results similar to those of gastric bypass. Additional long–term studies are still needed to accurately compare laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy with gastric bypass and/or gastric banding.
