Obesity on the Rise in US

The CDC released an updated report on the growing incidence of obesity and called out 6 states that have the greatest prevalence of obesity (greater than 30%). The survey which included more than 400,000 US adults reflected a dramatic rise in BMI measurements and a resultant increase in average annual healthcare expenditure per person from $3,458 in 2001 to $5,148 in 2006. The proportion of the total US healthcare expenditures for obese adults increased by 7.2% during the same time period.
